This 2008 GT3 RS underwent the coolant flange update. The 996 and 997 GT3’s and Turbo’s all have aluminum coolant flanges epoxied into the aluminum coolant housings. Over time and heat cycles, the epoxy breaks down and the flange comes out of the housing. Coolant is then released very quickly from the coolant system and there is a very good chance of loosing control of the vehicle as coolant is very slippery. The fix for this design flaw is to remove the three coolant housings with the six epoxied fittings, then remove them from the housings. Then clean the coolant housings thoroughly and TIG welded new fittings into the housings. Once this is completed all fittings are then pressure tested to ensure a proper seal. There are several different methods of performing this repair out there but this is the only true solid fix and the only way we make the repair here in our shop.
We’ve also installed a RSS 4-point bolt-in roll bar in this car.
