This 1959 Porsche 356 Convertible D 1600S was delivered new to a U.S. Marine stationed in Japan; the car was later brought back to the United States. At 66,000 miles, we completed a full concours restoration.
This full restoration was completed for preservation and originality. We sourced and used exclusively all original parts and hardware. From the original restored aluminum decos and bumper over rides, to the exhaust clamp bolts; everything is original and has been re-plated. The original ink stamps were documented and replaced after each part was restored. Each piece and part of this restoration was it’s own individual restoration. Metal and paint work was meticulously completed with passionate craftsmanship. We authentically preserved this car as if it had just rolled out of the factory in 1959, but with one-off fit and finish. From the beautiful body gaps, trim, interior and top fitment, to the rubber seals; each piece is exclusively fit to the car.
Ten years prior to this full restoration, we completed the engine and transmission build. When we built this engine, we added a few upgrades to ensure longevity and performance. All oil port plugs were removed to properly clean the oil passages in the crankshaft. We then installed new oil port plugs and micro polished and balanced the crankshaft, then balanced again with the flywheel, pressure plate and front pulley as one. The connecting rods were reconditioned and balanced end to end. The camshaft, lifters and rockers were also reconditioned. The engine oil cooler was updated to an improved aluminum oil cooler. New Mahle SC/912 pistons and cylinders were installed. The cylinder heads where CC’d and matched. We fully disassembled the transmission at the same time, installing all new bearings, synchro rings, seals and gaskets. We then revisited the engine and transmission during the car’s full restoration, powder coating all tin and plating all hardware.
