Built and owned by Nick Burkit of Specialty Cars, this project started as a rusted 1974 911S that we parted out in 2007. At the age of 19, Nick wanted to repair and build the tub into a track car. For the next 4.5 years, he spent his nights and weekends undergoing a rotisserie restoration which he completed July 22, 2011.
The first area that he addressed with this project was the rust. Once Nick properly repaired the metal work, it gave him a solid platform to work from. The underside of the car was epoxy painted. With help, he learned how to properly welded in factory 930 turbo flairs. He fitted a front mount oil cooler, fabricated the ducted work for the oil cooler and welded in RSR front and rear strut braces. Next he fit the fiberglass bumpers, tail, lights, and trim before the car would go to paint.
While the car was being painted, Nick started restoring all of the trim and components for reassembly. He converted 930 turbo brakes, rebuilt the suspension with monoball and poly components, replaced the bushings in the front strut housings and raised the spindles to RSR spec. The Bilstein front strut inserts and rear shocks were then sent out to be revalved to RSR spec. He fabricated stainless steel hood pin plates and a headrest from dimensions off of an original IROC. Once the car was back from paint, he started reassembling the car with all new rubber, light weight carpet, fabricated RSR door panels, RSR roll bar, replica RSR seats made from molds of originals, a fire system and head liner. Nick also converted the car to pop-out rear quarter windows to help with air flow in the car on hot days.
We sourced a 915 limited slip transmission that was rebuilt by Mark Burkit of Specialty Cars. We also located a 3.0 engine with JE pistons, custom ground cam shafts and Weber carburetors. The engine was freshened up and the carburetors were rebuilt. Fiberglass engine tin and fan shroud were installed, along with a M & K muffler and headers.
“As the car was nearing completion, I knew I had too much passion into the build and it wasn’t going to be a track car. Taking this stripped tub and restoring it one piece at a time taught me a lot. This build gave me a desire to preserve and recreate the history of these cars, that by design, were built for performance and longevity.”

Since the build was completed, the car has taken First Place at the 2011 Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix, First Place at the 2014 CPA PCA Swap Meet Concours, First Place at the 2016 Porsche Parade Jay Peak Vermont, and in 2017, Nick and his wife Taylor drove the IROC on their wedding day.
